This tutorial shows how to create beads of sweat on a bear bottle, by combining some filters.
Use the image of a beer bottle that hasn't and beads of sweat already on it, as we are going to add that effect afterwards.
So, you have one layer with the original image. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Press Ctrl+Shift+N to add a new layer to the document. Make sure it is on top of the original image. Fill the newly creted layer with a dark grey.
Step 2: Go to Filter > Render > Fibers, click on Randomize until you get the desired distribution of beads, keeping in mind that the white portion will determine this distribution. When you are satisfied with the result click OK.
Now you have fibers generated on the top layer, it's time to adjust the levels of this layer.
Step 3: Go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and slide the left and right indicators until the contrast is somehow similar to the image below. Click OK.
Step 4: Apply a Gaussian Blur to the image. Go to Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur.
Step 5: Go to Filter > Texture > Stained glass. Adjust the settings as in the image below. The white spots represent the beads of sweat effect that we are trying to accomplish. The black areas don't concern us.
Step 6: Go to Filter > Sketch > Plaster. Here you can set the number of beads, as well as the light angle. Example:
Click OK when you're done.
Step 7: Select the Magic Wand Tool (W). Check Contiguous and Antialias in the top settings bar, set the Tolerance to between 10 and 20 and select the gray/black area of the layer. Press Delete to delete this color. Now you have only the beads that concern us in the top layer. Deselect.
Because the distribution of beads is flat, we need to 'place' them on the bottle. We can do this using the Warp transform option.
Step 8: With the top layer selected, press Ctrl+T. Right click on the image that now has the transform handles, and click Warp. Adjust the beads to slightly take the form of the bottle, but be carefull not to distort them too much.
Step 9: Finally, set the top layer mode to Overlay. Here it is.
Notes: Depending on the result, you can adjust the top layers' contrast. You can use the Clone Stamp Tool to duplicate some areas if you want more beads, or the Erase Tool to delete some areas. Have fun!
