Publishing a website in Dreamweaver

This tutorial shows you how to publish your website to a server in Dreamweaver.

  1. Open Dreamweaver
  2. Click on Site > News Site in the top menu.
  3. Click the Advanced tab in the upper part of the window that appears.
  4. Click on the Local info item on the left
  5. In the main content area, fill in the fields as show in the image below:

    Here are some explanation of the field you are required to fill in:

    • Site name: The name of your website (appears in the list of websites in Dreamweaver)
    • Local root folder: The path to your files on your computer
    • Default images folder: The folder that contains the website's images
    • Link relative to:
      • Site root: All links will be generated by Dreamweaver relative to the specified address.
      • Site root: All links will be generated by Dreamweaver relative to the active document.
    • Default images folder: The folder that contains the website's images
    • HTTP address: The address on the web where your website is located
    • Cache: Enables caching of website files and folders
  6. On the left, select Remote info
  7. From the main content area, select the method for accessing your online files. Choose, for example, FTP
  8. Complete the fields as shown in the image below:

    Select the FTP host, the initial directory, login username and password to connect to the FTP server.

  9. Browser through the menu on the left for additional options like Testing server, Cloacking options and Site Map Layout. These are pretty simple and intuitive.

Now you have the basic settings set up to publish your website using Dreamweaver. Good luck:)
